Offshore Operations - SALMON NC

Salmon NC is currently working on the Goro Nickel project in New Caledonia, we commenced operations in June 2005.

We were recipients of the October 2006 Contractor of the Month award for Safety Performance.

Brief Project Summary

Salmon NC provides the following services to the project:

  • Earthmoving machinery
  • Maintenance services
  • Parts logistics
  • Machinery and tooling acquisitions
  • Local employment

Earthmoving Machinery

We have provided a number of heavy earthmoving plant to the project, consisting of Dozers, Excavators, Compactors, Artic Trucks, Loaders, Graders and Water Trucks. These machines have been involved in the construction of the tailings dam, pads for processing plant, construction of haul roads and used in the mining operation as well.

Maintenance Services

We are currently responsible for the full maintenance of over 65 heavy earthmoving machines and over 500 pieces of medium to small plant and equipment, consisting of Trucks, Lighting fleet, Welders, Gen Sets and Man Lifts. Most of these units have been involved in the construction of the new processing plant.

Parts Logistics

Salmon NC, in conjunction with Salmon Australia, provides a complete parts sourcing, purchasing, shipping and tracking solution. Not only are we sourcing parts for our contract. But we are also sourcing parts for the mining and processing operations.

Machinery Acquisitions

Salmon has assisted Goro Nickel in the acquisition of earthmoving machinery, medium plant and specialized tooling for the project. We have sourced, inspected, purchased and delivered a large number of items for the project from many locations around the globe.

Summary of local involvement in the project:

To date we have created over 50 new jobs for local people in New Caledonia.

Training Summary:

Local / Site Based:

We actively encourage the insertion of young people with little or no experience into the work place and take them through thorough training programs that have been accepted by New Caledonia’s labour and economic departments.

Our local workshop managers are qualified to manage trainees that, in Australia, would be TAFE apprentices. This “exchange” scheme has been a very positive experience with regards to not only work place training but also exposure to a different culture. This has been a positive two-way gain.

Australian based:

For our established core work group leaders we have developed a training program that is executed at our Stapylton, QLD workshop and Head Office.

Local Community:

We have supported many New Caledonian community events and institutions such as:

New Caledonia Cricket – Salmon NC Sponsored the New Caledonian team for the Pacific Games 2007
